A Maryland Anterior Bridge uses metal or resin wings to secure the bridge instead of dental crowns, as seen in traditional or cantilever bridges. These metal wings are bonded to the inner surfaces of adjacent teeth without requiring significant removal of natural tooth structure, making it a minimally invasive solution. However, Maryland Bridges are less stable and secure, typically used as a temporary solution or in cases where the adjacent teeth are healthy.
The pontics are usually made of ceramic materials, while the bonding wings are typically composed of metal or resin.
Implant Support Anterior Bridge
An Implant-Supported Anterior Bridge is the optimal solution for patients missing multiple front teeth. Instead of relying on adjacent healthy teeth for support, this type of bridge is anchored by dental implants.
Dental implants are small, threaded posts that replace the roots of missing teeth. Before attaching the bridge to the implants, the implants must fully integrate (osseointegrate) with the jawbone. This process typically takes between three to six months but may take longer depending on the patient’s condition.
